    Great reputation
These models have forged a great reputation for being sturdy vessels that are safe at sea, simple in layout and easy for shorthanded sailing. They’re exceptionally versatile boats – great offshore and well suited for weekend and coastal cruising.
The design of the 36, like many of the Cape Dory lineup comes from Carl Alberg, a legendary name in cruising yacht design. Alberg’s design influences came predominantly from the Scandinavian folkboat which emphasized seakindly and well mannered sailing characteristics at the sacrifice of internal volume and initial boat stiffness. The Cape Dory 36 follows this tradition with a narrow beam, low freeboard, large overhangs, and a full keel with a cutaway on the forefoot.
A good look at the construction quality and boats rigging and its clear that the boat is built for offshore work. Though they’re known to be nimble and easy to sail in coastal situations. They have a relatively shallow five foot draft, making them ideal for gunkholing, yet the narrow hull and spartan interiors are simple by modern standards, they do suffice for liveaboard couples or for up to six on social weekends.
