my husband father james e. drake was a cook on the thayer for 10 years 1940 to 1950. my husband john c drake his son use to play on the thayer in 1947 at poulsbo wa. we saw the renewal of the thayer in san francisco. at that time captain j.e.shieldss use to visit my husbands family after a trip from the bering sea. and use to bring him his check. only pictures we have are one of my husband sleeping on the ropes on deck with two fellow mates he was 15 years old
