Proudly had my Carerra Instinct since around 1994 ish and its half way through 2023 now. Everything original except the seat. Tyres still have most of their nipples on them as I have ride it only a few days each year for a few 30 mile or so rides. Just serviced it again, always do some maintenance every year ie oil etc, and it's as can be expected, perfect and rolling, and stopping, like new.
The geometry of the frame is just right for myself, tried so many frames / bikes over the years but just not found one that is close to the Instinct. Will stick some Schwalbe Road Cruiser tyres on it for road riding as there's no reason for me to get rid of it, plus the rubber sidewalls are showing some slight aging
I bought this bike in 1991 and have worn out or replaced every component except the frame, forks and saddle. I recently swapped the old quill-stem with a 1" quill to 1 1/8 A-Head post so that I could fit a new style stem.
The rear brakes have been swapped to V-brakes but the forks are too wide for V-brakes. I don't think v-brakes existed in 1991?
As one of the earlier MTB's the frame geometry is more like a road bike - good for comfy road riding.
